ANSWER:

The tdf (Theme Defination File) contains the color codes and image links needed to install a given theme on your board. In most cases, tdf's posted by other people have abreviated url's for the images. This is to help prevent bandwidth theft (either intentional, or accidental).

To successfully install a tdf, you have to have corrected url's. To do this, you need to be able to host the images yourself (or have someone host them for you.) There are many hosts that currently offer free -- abet, limited -- hotlinking of images. But be advised that anything free can potentially be problematic. It's best, if possible, to host images on a paid webside. But if this is not possible, chose your free webhost with care.
